I Stand With You

There are so many emotions that have gone through my head this week as events keep unfolding across the nation. Protests against police brutality have swept across the nation and with it a wave of social media outbreak, both of which are hoping to make the change that is long overdue. I’ve wanted to say something all week about it, however, I didn’t feel as if I had the right words to do so. But starting right now, it doesn’t matter if I don’t have the right words- support is support. I will refuse to sit back anymore and watch from afar. Our police force is a system supposedly based on helping people. That’s the foundation of every branch of armed forces: to serve and protect. However, how can we call that a fair, unbiased, and equal system if black lives are being taken based on actions that warrant no violent action. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahumaud Arberry, and so many more innocent people have died unfair and unacceptable deaths. They all died at the hands of police violence, all black, all with no reason to be killed. I’ve heard a lot of people refer to the police as a white supremasist organisation, especially recently. White priveledge is real, I am aware that I do not know the hardships that black people face in their own lives everyday, however, I do know that because of my skin color I am privledged and I am ashamed to live in a country where that is true. I was raised to know that all people should have equality, and in turn be treated like anybody else, that means that your race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. isn’t a means for discrimination. On top of that, there should be no discrimination at all, period. We are all human beings, all born into the same world. We should be lifting eachother up and helping to create a fair and equal system that won’t stand for violence based on discrimination against anyone for any reason. I feel sick having to look at how little our justice system and government is doing to protect its citizens. How longer must we live in this archaic system of violence and inequality? Things need to change. Now. How much longer can we go on in this constant cycle of police brutality? I am proud of everyone going to protests and making a point. We all need to be united in this push for change. We all need to be able to know that a white person, black person, hispanic person, etc. have the same rights. We all need to continue to fight until that is achieved. Stopping when the publicity stops is not fighting. Stopping when they turn their backs on us is not fighting. Fighting is not stopping until the job is done. Equity and equality are not something we should have to fight for, but we do. So I hope everyone is ready to be the change they wish to see. I have a responsibility as an ally to do my research and support those who need it and I am more than willing to fight alongside anyone else who fights for this cause.

I see you

I hear you

I stand with you.
